Barcode Verification
Verification reports are test scan results of printed barcode images. These barcode test scans are made on very sophisticated verification machines. The reports tell us how easily & accurately the barcode images scan. The barcode is given a grade – a pass grade is A, B, C or D. The report also provides specific details about the various parameters of the barcode.
Some companies require barcode verification for all new products entering their stores. Other companies conduct these tests themselves on new products they are accepting.
Verification reports can also be performed on your artwork prior to printing. This is a good way to determine whether your barcode is likely to be readable when it is finally printed. NOTE that verification reports on barcode artwork don’t guarantee that the final printed barcode will scan well – as there can be errors in the final barcode printing process.
The safest process is to get a barcode verification report performed on your artwork, and then another verification report for your final printed product.
We are able to provide barcode verification reports for barcode numbers purchased from us, performed by an independent GS1-accredited company using the latest barcode verification equipment. The cost for a verification report is $59. If you would like a verification report for your artwork or final printed barcode, please purchase below & then send us a copy of your barcode.
For artwork, post or courier a printed copy of the section of artwork with the barcode to us.
For printed packaging, post or courier the packaging with barcode to us at the physical address on our contact page.
Reports take 2-3 days after we receive your artwork.
These verification reports are performed by a GS1-accredited company using the latest verification technology. The only company in Australia and New Zealand that we are aware of which won’t accept our verification reports is Woolworths Australia (they require the bar code verification reports to be done by GS1-Australia).

Further Information About Barcode Verification

A Barcode Verifier
A barcode verifier is not the same as a barcode scanner. A barcode scanner is typically a mass-produced item that interfaces with a computer providing machine recognition of the information (data) encoded in a barcode image. Using a scanner to test or read a barcode only assures that the scanned bar code has some area on it that is readable, by that barcode scanner. Hence, the better the barcode scanner, the less barcode quality assurance is maintained (eg a good barcode scanner could read a poor quality barcode image).
In contrast, a bar code verifier is a precision machine that is designed to predict how easily the barcode will be read by typical barcode scanners. The barcode verifier can decode, measure and check the quality barcode images of all qualities, and indicate any areas that need to be improved.
