Ordering Information
“How do I get a barcode for my product?”
If you want to order barcodes (or barcode labels) for your product , you have three options:
1) Order directly from our website and pay by credit card or PayPal;
2) Order over the phone and pay by credit card; or
3) Send us an email if you want to pay by bank deposit or cheque.
If you are ordering from our website: please go to our Barcode Shop page, enter the quantity of items you want, click “Add to Cart”, and then click “Go to Checkout”. You will be asked to review your order, enter your contact details, and provide us with “additional information” (if necessary). You can then make the payment (either by credit card or by PayPal).
Note: When making your order you do not need to give us any information about your product. We will assign you a barcode that is purely a unique number (with no product information encoded into it). Your barcode will only get linked to your product after you supply it to your retailer, and they enter the barcode & product details into their inventory system.
“What will I receive?”
If you order a standard retail barcode from us (for your product), you will receive an email containing:
- a unique EAN barcode number;
- a guarantee certificate;
- free barcode registration &
- barcode images (5 different formats: jpeg, eps, bmp, tiff & pdf – have a look at our sample images)
Your barcode will be a number that is unique worldwide. You will be the legal owner of it, and it will not expire. EAN barcode numbers are suitable for use on any retail product other than books or magazines (which require an ISBN or ISSN number).
After we send you the barcode you can attach it to your product & begin using it immediately.
We will send the images in the standard size (25mm x 37mm). Officially you can safely reduce them to 80% of size (20mm x 30mm) when putting them onto your packaging. If you make them smaller than that it could be too difficult for scanning machines to read.
“I already have a barcode number, I just need the images…”
If you already have an EAN (or UPC) retail barcode number, and you just need the barcode images for it, you can purchase them from our Retail Barcode Images page for $30. After we receive your order, we will email the barcode images to you in five different formats (.eps, .bmp, .pdf, .jpg & .tiff). You can then attach the barcode to your product & begin using it immediately.
If you need a different type of barcode, please visit our Images page – we can provide QR Code images, ITF-14 Carton Code images, etc.
“Should I get barcode labels?”
If your product has already been manufactured, then it is a good idea to get your barcode printed onto labels & then manually attach these labels to your product. You can order sticky barcode labels from our Barcode Labels page. You can either purchase the labels + a barcode number, or else you can purchase the labels by themselves (if you already have a barcode number).
“Do I need to get barcode verification?”
Some retailers require verification reports to be done on the final packaging of new products entering their stores – you’ll need to contact your retailers to find out if they require one. If they do, you will need to post your final printed packaging or label to us to be verified. You can order a verification report from us on our verification page.
A verification report is simply a test scan of how readable your barcode is – it is given a grade (a pass grade is A, B, C or D). Reports usually take 2-6 days after we receive your packaging or label. We will email the report to you when it is completed.
“Do I need to register my barcode?”
No, you don’t have to register your barcode – after you receive your barcode you can just put it onto your product & begin using it immediately. Although barcode registration is not compulsory, there some benefits from doing it. We offer free optional barcode registration for each barcode purchased from our company (when we send barcodes to our customers, we will ask for some product information so that we can register their barcode).
